Tyre Pressure Monitoring System

Monitor your tyres for a better, safer driving experience.

Continental values your driving experience and safety. Using state-of-the-art sensor technology and monitoring devices, we have what it takes to keep you safe. We know that driving safety and comfort are directly related to the condition of the tyres on your vehicle. After all, around 40 per cent of all sudden tyre breakdowns are due to under-inflated tyres and insufficient pressure.

That’s why Continental has developed two safety features to avoid these types of vehicle breakdowns.

  • The Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and
  • The Electronic-Tyre Information System (eTIS)

These clever tools work with the sensors in the wheels and brake systems of your vehicle by permanently monitoring the inflation pressure of your tyres. The Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and the Electronic-Tyre Information System (eTIS) help improve car and driving safety by alerting you to changes in temperature or loss of tyre pressure (a leading cause of accidents), via a dashboard warning light. In addition to serving a reliable safety warning to drivers, the TPMS and eTIS also help reduce COemissions and fuel consumption.

Here’s an example of just how useful these warning systems can be for you and your car.

Did you know that if the tyres on your car are under-inflated by just 0.3 bar, your vehicle will consume about 1.5 per cent more fuel and release a higher amount of CO2? Not only is this harmful to the environment, but it will also cost you more money.

With our TPMS sensors and eTIS technologies alerting you to low tyre pressure levels, you can expect:

  • enhanced driving safety
  • a reduction in your carbon footprint
  • improved fuel economy
  • a better driving experience
  • increased length of your car’s optimal performance lifespan

Statutory tyre pressure regulations for Europe

The European Commission passed legislation requiring Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems on all new models in the EU from 2012 onward, and on all new cars in the EU as of 2014. This is already the case in the US.

A lot of vehicles already include TPMS as standard equipment. These systems make their monitoring data available to other systems, such as the braking system.

With our range of innovative technologies and products, we are well positioned to tackle future requirements. Our goal is to make motoring:

  • even safer
  • more environmentally friendly
  • more comfortable

We also aim to make tyre management easier for drivers.

UK regulations and the MOT

Our TPMS sensor technology and eTIS will not only help you to comply with EU regulations, but will also help you to meet UK regulations. Due to the increased fuel efficiency and safety this monitoring system provides, your vehicle will be less likely to fail the MOT.

Fitting your car with Continental tyres and using our innovative sensors to monitor your vehicle’s tyre pressure is an investment in your well-being and the health of the planet. Make sure to get your tyres checked regularly so that the sensors, valves and systems are in proper working order.
