FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Voluntary Exchange Programme

ContiEcoContact 5 in 235/55 R 17 103 H XL

How do I check whether the tyres on my vehicle are affected?

The tyres can be identified by brand, size and Department of Transportation (DOT) week codes which are outlined below. The last four digits of the DOT serial number indicates the production period (week/year). Affected tyres will be replaced free of charge.

Product lineDOT serial number
ContiEcoContact 5, size 235/55 R 17 103 H XL

CN 7AD72Y 4015 until 0221

No other tyre sizes, production periods or product lines are affected.

What do I have to do if I have affected tyres?

If you believe that you have a tyre that is included in this programme, please contact us at your earliest convenience, either by phone 01788 566240 or email warranty.technical@conti.de

We will replace all affected tyres. The exchange will be carried out at no cost for you, providing that the exchange is completed by July 1st, 2022 at the latest.

If you have disposed of one or more of the affected tyres already or sold the vehicle on to which the tyres were mounted, please inform us with the appropriate information (e.g. to whom the vehicle was sold).

What do I do if I have further questions about the programme?

We have compiled further information including our Customer Service Team contacts on the internet page: https://www.continental-tyres.co.uk/car/tyres/technical-services/voluntary-exchange-programs

Please get in touch with them if you have any further questions.

What costs will I probably incur?

We will credit the full purchase price of the replacement tyre (including costs for mounting, balancing etc. if applicable) for all exchanges made before July 1st, 2022. After July 1st, 2022 the compensation will be based on the currently valid version of the Continental warranty regulation.

Why are you having these tyres replaced?

In rare cases, if the affected tyres are used over a longer or repeated period of time, with heavy loading or possible overloading, a sudden loss of air may occur. The active market monitoring of Continental has shown this only occurs with tyres fitted on a VW Caravelle or VW Multivan. Continental’s market monitoring has not identified comparable fault patterns with the respective tyres used on any other vehicle types.

Have there already been any accidents?

No, we are not aware of any accidents or personal injuries in connection with these tyres.

When will this exchange programme start and for how long will it run?

Our voluntary exchange programme started on November 25th, 2021. We have informed the DVSA and are in touch with our dealers to implement the programme. The programme will run for all concerned Continental tyres exchanged with new Continental tyres before July 1st, 2022 free of charge for consumers. After July 1st, 2022 the compensation will based on the currently valid version of the Continental warranty regulation. We strongly recommend that you check the tyres of your car before you use it again. The tyres concerned have to be exchanged as soon as possible.
