Vision Zero

Continental's Vision Zero Live

Vision Zero Live event

Continental has been a pioneer in road safety for more than 140 years. Driver safety has been - and always will be - at the heart of our company ethos.

As one of the biggest driver safety experts in the world, Continental has set itself an ambitious goal to be reached in three successive stages: Evolving from best in braking to zero fatalities, zero injuries and zero accidents. And for good reasons. Only Continental knows the entire braking process in every detail – from pedal to tyre.

An important part of this commitment are our Vision Zero Live events.

Supporting Continental on the journey to Vision Zero is leading road safety charity, Brake. As a humanitarian charity, Brake's vision is a world that has zero road deaths and injuries, where people can get around in ways that are safe, sustainable, healthy and fair.

What you should expect at Vision Zero Live?

We have some fundamental points we try to achieve in our demonstrations, for instance showing why buying a Premium brand like Continental will keep you safer on our roads than the budget options. We show this in many areas for example in the “Behind the wheel” experience as you will see in the video demonstrating below.

Live demos at the events:

  • Latest Safety Systems - See first-hand how Continental technology like Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) can reduce front and rear-end collisions.
  • Educating Drivers – Providing common distractions to see how people deal with them when behind the wheel showing why it’s so important to keep your eyes on road at all times.
  • Don’t chance it, Check it! - The crucial role tread depth and inflation pressures play.
  • 1.6mm v 3mm - The braking difference between tyres with 1.6mm and 3mm of tread on wet roads.
  • Premium vs Budget - Both cars are exactly the same except for the tyres, the differences are real and can have more of an effect on the vehicle than you may think.

Where we have been so far and what we have achieved?

Since launching our Vision Zero Live events in 2017, we’ve travelled up and down the country to present our goal of zero fatalities, zero injuries and zero accidents. We have already presented our goal in three venues across the country, Cotswold Airport, Dunsfold Park (Top Gear Test Track), Leeds East Airport, and Co. Kildare, Ireland.

We’ve had a mixture of retailers and members of the public attend with some excellent feedback. It’s a real eye opener in what Continental are trying to achieve, with many pleasantly shocked in what we can do.

We asked Stewart Jackson, Supply Chain Director at Continental Tyres, what he thought about the experience:

“The day was really good for customers and staff to experience the technology and product first-hand. It opens your eyes to the brand that is Continental, as not just tyre manufacturers but one of the leading automotive suppliers for safety technology!”
