TyreSafe 10 Year Anniversary

At Continental we have a long heritage of innovation in developing driver safety technologies. For over one hundred years we have been at the forefront of ensuring drivers throughout the world have the best available original equipment and braking systems for their vehicles.

Many of our proprietary systems – such as Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) – have been adopted by the global automotive industry, resulting in a better, safer driving experience for drivers worldwide.

As part of our on-going commitment to provide the optimum driving experience, Continental are a leading supporter in the quest to provide drivers with the knowledge they need to help ensure their continued safety. To this end we are a member and active participant of TyreSafe, the UK’s foremost tyre safety organisation.

TyreSafe - the UK's first point of reference for tyre safety issues

TyreSafe is dedicated to raising awareness of the potential dangers associated with defective or illegal tyres. Established in 2006 as a non-profit organisation, TyreSafe campaigns in line with current legislation and duty of care regulations, striving to ensure the menace of defective or illegal tyres is eradicated from Britain’s roads.

Since its inception, TyreSafe’s activities have helped reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on British roads each year in a tyre related accident by 31%. In recognition of its efforts in improving road safety, TyreSafe was awarded the prestigious Prince Michael International Road Safety Award in 2009.

TyreSafe is also the first tyre safety organisation to become a signatory to the EU Road Safety Charter, created in 2004 with the aim of reducing the number of deaths and injuries in road accidents across all EU member states.

Celebrating 10 years of TyreSafe

In 2016, TyreSafe celebrates 10 years of campaigning to raise awareness of the importance of tyres safety. TyreSafe receives support from many areas of the tyre industry, including many major tyre manufacturers, retailers and wholesalers, as well as some associated equipment suppliers and a number of vehicle manufacturers. To deliver its messages TyreSafe works closely with a wide range of commercial and government organisations, including Highways England, RoadSafe, many police forces, fire services, councils and other bodies.

TyreSafe is now seen as the UK authority and first point of reference for tyre safety issues. It aims to continue developing this position through a wide range of education and information programmes, all designed to encourage UK motorists to improve their knowledge, attitudes and behaviour towards tyre care and safety.

TyreSafe generate and dispense a diverse range of printed and digital resources in their drive to promote the importance of tyre safety, including this microsite that highlights the dangers of part worn tyres.

Guy Frobisher, Marketing Director at Continental says: “Continental is pleased to support TyreSafe in raising tyre safety issues to the consumer, and in its work with other road safety bodies and transport professionals.”

Continental is committed to making driving safer and is leading many initiatives through TyreSafe on road safety relating to tyres, such as the effects of tread depth on stopping distances and the need for regular tyre checks and maintenance.
