Continental and NARS
After a COVID-enforced hiatus for Irish adventure racers, in 2021 we are returning for a third series with events scheduled to take place in September and October.
The increasingly popular National Adventure Race Series is an outdoor multi-sport adventure race series which includes running, cycling and kayaking across some of Ireland’s most challenging – and picturesque – terrain, commencing with Killary Fjord in Leenane, Co. Galway, and concluding with majestic Glendalough in the Garden County. The events are open to experienced competitors who seek the ultimate endurance challenge, as well as novice participants looking to set personal goals.
Established in Ireland in 2011 by Multisport Adventure Ireland, the National Adventure Race Series offers participants the opportunity to compete for national titles. The series comprises of a selection of top-quality adventure races around Ireland.
Launching this year’s series, Paul Mahon of Adventure Racing Ireland said: “We’re thrilled to be back! We have missed the camaraderie and adrenaline rush of competitive adventure racing over the past year so this is a big step forward. It’s a slightly condensed agenda this year with participants required to complete three events to qualify for the series, but we are confident that all events will be a really enjoyable and a safe experience for everyone.

The Continental Tyres National Adventure Race Series offers participants an opportunity to become overall champion by achieving the most points taken from their five best scoring events in their respective categories. Adventure Racers can be presented with a mixture of tough geographical conditions in various races, from rough trail running to gravel lined roads. Therefore, footwear and tyres need to take all those stresses and strains in their stride!
Tom Dennigan of Continental Tyres Ireland said: “We are proud of our partnership with Adventure Racing Ireland and couldn’t be happier to be back this year to support the growing community of outdoor enthusiasts. “Getting to these events is often an adventure in itself and a big part of the experience.”
Choosing the right footwear and the right bike tyres is essential, they can help with increased grip, ride comfort and rolling resistance. We are more than a car tyre brand; we also offer award winning grip for bike tyres and we continue to enjoy a successful relationship with adidas footwear to provide grip for their premium running and trail shoes – ideal for your adventure racing.

In February 2019, we became the official partner of the Irish National Adventure Race Series (NARS). The National Adventure Race Series includes two competitive category options: Expert level where participants climb higher, cycle longer and paddle further; and Sport level which is shorter but faster and highly competitive, with some of the country’s fittest athletes participating. At the end of each adventure racing season, races in the Continental Tyres National Adventure Race Series are reviewed and assessed for eligibility and suitability for the upcoming year.
The Continental Tyres National Adventure Race Series will run in conjunction with a combination of community and professional racing events, with all this year’s events implementing safety and social distancing measures to comply with current health guidelines.
