Continental brings Tyre Safety Month to Life

Tyre Safety Month 2019 at Mercedes-Benz World

As proud TyreSafe supporters, Continental Tyres and Mercedes-Benz World are hosting free all-season tyre demonstrations during the October half term.

As Partner in Excellence at Mercedes-Benz World, Continental will once again highlight the importance of tyre safety as part of their commitment to Tyre Safety Month 2019.

Continental will provide the free driving experience in two cars to demonstrate the differences in braking distances when using all-season and summer tyres on a simulated wet track. During the October demonstrations, Mercedes-Benz professional drivers will be on hand to share practical advice on how to check tyres and basic maintenance. Visitors will be able to take away supporting information to assist with their safety checks. Since the beginning of 2019 over 340 consumers have experienced first-hand demonstrations of the AllSeasonContact. As a result of the driving experiences, an average of 91% of participants would consider using all-season tyres.

As the seasons change, it is really important motorists are engaged in choosing the correct tyre fitment. During the warmer August and September months, summer tyres provide optimum performance, however as the weather cools down drivers should consider changing tyres. The AllSeasonContact™, Continental’s first all-season tyre for Europe, is ideally suited to the UK’s milder winter climate. For those living in areas with harsher winters, it is important to consider the change to a winter tyre such as the award-winning Continental WinterContact™ TS 860

Mark Griffiths, safety expert at Continental Tyres, said “Continental are proud to support Tyre Safety Month 2019. The routine maintenance of tyres is a key part of safe vehicle ownership. TyreSafe have found that an average of 177 motorists are killed or seriously injured each year as a result of tyre related incidents. This highlights how important it is to educate drivers on tyre care and maintenance to improve safety on our roads.”

As proud supporters of TyreSafe, Continental Tyres are committed to providing drivers with helpful safety advice. According to TyreSafe, 57% of tyres being driven on British roads are under inflated, leading to almost £600 million being wasted on unnecessary fuel bills. To help avoid these needless costs, Continental has a created a series of videos to advise drivers how to correctly check and maintain their tyres. The films tackle simple tasks such as checking tread depth, tyre condition and pressure, the three key steps TyreSafe advise all drivers to undertake.

The demonstrations will take place across the half term period and last 20 minutes per session. There is no need for people to book – just turn up that day – between Saturday 26th October to Sunday 3rd November within the hours of 11:00-13:00, subject to availability.
