Continental has been a pioneer in road safety for more than 140 years. Driver safety has been - and always will be - at the heart of the German tyre manufacturers ethos. As part of this commitment, Continental will once again tour the UK and Ireland across a range of locations, inviting drivers to experience the critical role of tyres, and automotive systems.
As one of the biggest driver safety experts in the world, Continental has set itself an ambitious goal to be reached in three successive stages: evolving from best in braking to zero fatalities, zero injuries and zero accidents. As part of Continental’s work with Brake, it will be engaging road users at live experiential events, with a particular focus on younger drivers. These will see attendees take the driver seat across a range of driving modules at test track locations, with Brake leading a module that discusses the ‘Pledge’ – Brake’s six golden rules for safer driving. The ‘Pledge’ asks both drivers and passengers to be SLOW, SOBER, SECURE, SILENT, SHARP and SUSTAINABLE. The module will particularly focus on the issues most pertinent to young drivers, SOBER, SECURE and SILENT, and will raise awareness of Brake’s ‘L for Later’ campaign and its calls to introduce a graduated driving licensing system in the UK.

In 2016, a total of 1,792 people were killed and 24,101 seriously injured in crashes on roads in the UK  – the highest number of road deaths since 2011. These shocking figures demonstrate the urgent need to improve road safety in the UK and the importance of the Brake and Continental partnership in raising road safety awareness.”
