ContiLifeCycle™

Our tyres live longer

ContiLifeCycle

The many lives of our Continental Truck Tyres.

Quick Facts

Continental Truck Tyres are designed for ultimate economy over the entire life. The ContiLifeCycle™ begins with the new tyre and continues with our premium retreading solutions and ContiCasingManagement.

The ContiLifeCycle prolongs the life of your tyres, thereby significantly lowering your tyre costs.

When you purchase a retreaded tyre, you not only lighten your tyre budget but also help to protect the environment. Reusing the casing saves energy and raw materials. Multiple use of the casing also reduces the number of old tyres in circulation.

New Continental Tyres

New Continental Tyres – Built for more than just one life

Not all roads are equal and the same goes for transport. Knowing this, we have developed Continental truck tyres that suit the unique conditions of your transport activities. That means they unleash their full potential to increase the overall economy of your vehicles.

The Continental casing is what makes our tyres so economical. Built with optimised and perfectly matched reinforcements and mixture components and a contour that best suits the application, the Continental casing achieves outstanding structural durability. Durability that pays off.

The Continental casing is therefore a worthy investment because it serves as a valuable raw material for retreading. By reusing the casing, you protect not only the world’s resources, but also conserve your own budget.

Regrooving

Regrooving – The smart approach to prolonging the life of your tyres

Professional tyre regrooving is a sensible option that prolongs the life of a tyre, making it even more economical.

In fact, regrooving pays off twofold: firstly, because you can simply drive the tyre for longer, and secondly because the lower profile thickness reduces rolling resistance, which in turn reduces fuel consumption.

On top of that are the environmental benefits. A tyre that can go longer before being replaced saves valuable resources. The tyre must of course be labeled as regroovable. To exploit this added potential fully without damaging the casing, only qualified specialists may perform the regrooving.

Retreading_CLC

Retreading

ContiTread is the Continental premium tread for cold retreading.

This tread is produced exclusively with Continental mixtures and profiles. By choosing this method, you give your tyre a new profile, prolong its life and thereby reduce your total tyre costs.

The best results are achieved when high-tech and high quality Continental casings are used in retreading. ContiTread can, however, be applied to other makes of casing.

Using our premium hot retreading service ContiRe, you give new life to your worn Continental Truck Tyre and realise the full economic performance of the tyre.

ContiRe production is analogue to how we manufacture our new tyres – using the same profiles and rubber mixtures. Exclusively Continental casings are used, which are retreaded from bead to bead. This method also renews the side walls, and the tyres remain regroovable.

To ensure our high quality standard, every tyre is put through durability and safety tests according to a standardised quality system. Accordingly, every ContiRe is covered by the Continental warranty. All this and its outstanding mileage make a ContiRe the best choice among the retreadable tyres.

There are two methods that can be used for tyre retreading: hot retreading and cold retreading. Only carefully selected and properly inspected casings are used in either of these methods. The manufacturing process itself is also identical for both methods, up to the point of applying the tread material and performing the vulcanisation.

Hot retreading

During hot retreading, the process of applying the tread material is virtually identical to the production of a new tyre.

The tread material is taken directly from the extruder and applied to the buffed casing. Afterwards the tread/casing assembly is cured in a vulcanisation mould with the required tread pattern. The pattern on the tread is formed during the vulcanisation process just as it is when a new tyre is made.

Hot retreaded truck tyres from Continental are retreaded from bead to bead. The main advantage of this principle is that the sidewalls are renewed, ensuring that the quality of the hot retreaded tyre is comparable with that of a new tyre.

Cold retreading

Using the cold retreading method, a patterned and prevulcanised tread is applied to the buffed casing. This tread is placed, under constant tension, together with an unvulcanised bonding ply onto the buffed casing; pretensioning ensures already prior to vulcanisation that the tread adapts optimally to the tyre contour and guarantees that the parts are effectively bonded together while the tyre is in the autoclave (curing chamber). Then the prepared tyre is “packed” into a curing tube (envelope) and cured under pressure in the autoclave.

ECE 109

ECE Regulation No. 109 defines type approval standards in the production of retreaded pneumatic tyres for commercial vehicles and their trailers. This regulation defines strict quality control measures that have been compulsory for retreaders since September 2006 to ensure high-quality retreaded tyres.
